IS LIFE'S LIKE THAT ? ? ?

DEAR ALL

Let me begin the very first chapter today with a news piece I watched on a television show. Now, why I choose this particular subject is because it fits into the heading of our blog - voices of superpower India. It has to do with the ills the new rising is bringing in, which we must check today before it’s too late. Yes, with new industries, new world order shall arise new problems, newer ways of exploitation, and new kind of crimes. This case aptly fits into that scenario. This is a group of cases that plague today's sunshine sector - the call centers. We all know of the mms clip of two call center employees indulging in sexual act that got msgd across the country. That got settled on the surface, but today we shall talk of the brutal exploitive rules being used by the call centers to leash in the employees. Typically this happens, as we are an overpopulated third world country, where finding human resource is not a problem at all. For every vacancy created, 15 are available, infact some would come cheaper. So what does this amount to? Very Simple - employee exploitation. Appraisals are arbitrary. Its on the whims and fancy of your overall
boss. What is the goal for that overall Boss - simply the bigger pie you manage for the company and its owners, the larger share you shall receive. So when attrition rates are very high and yet do not impact any industry in India its very easy. Don’t give appraisals, let the people leave. You save lacs for the company, so your growth is undoubted. But how low can you get to save money for the company in order to increase your brownies? ? The cases in question are of women managers, who were blatantly refused maternity leave, and when questioned were threatened with termination. And termination in the call centers means no other job, as every organization that you apply to has to be given your discharge letter from the last organization, without which you will not be employed. So if terminated, means no discharge letter = no further employment. Such cases are not isolated. There are many cases when the lady in question has buckled under such tactics and has carried on working till she didn’t literally collapse bleeding and had to be rushed and hospitalized.

I ask is this the India we dream of? ? Are we to shrug this off, as it didn’t happen with a lady from our own family? Because it was not my mother, sister, girlfriend, friend, relative or wife? For if we allow such events to continue, the day is not far when a similar mishap will engulf one of our dear one's. I invite your voices on this and similar such incidents that you have seen happen. All your voices collectively will be handed over to the apex body of labour laws in the country, for them to act on the same.

WARM REGARDS
